Regarding capital punishment , in certain countries, relatives of the victim have opportunity to witness the execution. It is difficult to comprehend the benefits of such practice, since witnessing death can be more traumatizing. It possiby could not provide any long term relief for the victim's family. What could be the basic principle behind this legal provision?
Postscript: - It is interesting to know that capital punishment was abolished in the princely state Travancore, India, in 1946. It was re-introduced in 1950 after independence.

ReplyDeleteIn the case of the (in)famous Dhananjoy Chatterjee, I saw an online petition addressed to the President of India, signed by nearly a hundred people, that
Dhananjoy Chatterjee be hanged to death in public view, so that other men would think twice before committing such crime. India cannot shine if such merciless men are given the so-called mercy.
Spephen Kings' "The Green Mile" shows the witnessing of capital punishment by relatives of the victim. It's a sensitive issue, punishment vs amnesty. But what's more punishing/rewarding?

History and statistics shows that public executions with an intention to prevent criminals from committing crimes have not been quite successful, especially crimes commit based on hate, greed or ideology. Otherwise old Europe and current middle eastern countries would have been crime free societies.

ReplyDeletevishnu, if he killed and raped minor girl you hanged him but who is to hang you for your killing human being ?? life is not given by court therefore none can take it . he killed her without plan but what about you who planned and killed him ? thats really hatred and i hate capital punishment . no capital punishment brings anyone back
