The abandonment of Nikhil by his own parents was shocking and terrifying. That brought into surface a question: For whose happiness a child is being born ? – For the happiness of the parents or for the happiness of the child? The same question that Yagnavalkyan asked Maithreyi long time ago…”Maithraiyi tell me, is the husband dear for husband’s sake or for the sake of the self ? Is the wife dear for wife’s sake or for the sake of the self ?”. Parents give away everything for the child...wealth, riches, property…anything. But the child is being given away for something else…. Self. On that Self the child is sacrificed. Man cannot love any thing for it’s own sake. As soon as ‘it' does not serve the interests of him, 'it' will be abandoned. Onir depicts that fundamental human nature very well in this film.
